IDEO and their “The Deep Dive” approach 👇
In the Leadership and Innovation course from MIT Professional Education, I stumbled upon a video (although somewhat old, extremely enlightening) about IDEO and their “The Deep Dive” approach 👇
Here are some standout perspectives on leadership:
1️⃣ Leaders don’t need to be experts in a specific field. Their real strength lies in understanding the methodology and effectively managing teams. Their mission is to create an environment where everyone comprehends and aligns with a shared objective.
2️⃣ They architect multidisciplinary teams and promote horizontal communication. They orchestrate the process, always bearing in mind the dynamics of innovation and the goals to be achieved.
3️⃣ They establish a corporate culture where creativity and innovation are foundational pillars. They create a space where freedom acts as the breeding ground for idea generation.
Of course, they also steer clear of certain practices:
- They avoid setting up hierarchies that give unequal power among team members and, especially, that position them as the supreme authorities.
- They are careful with their language and refrain from dismissing disruptive ideas at first glance. Instead of ruling out bold ideas, they choose to explore them first.
- They don’t enforce a rigid, structured work environment, valuing free expression more. This, in turn, has a positive impact on the organization’s culture.
